Dear parents and guardians of 5th grade students,
All 5th grade teachers in Santa Clara Unified School District will be teaching the annual lessons on the early stages of puberty, which many fifth graders are beginning to experience. We are pleased to inform you that your student will have the opportunity to participate in Puberty Talk, a 5-6 hour health education course developed by Health Connected.
Puberty Talk complies with California Education Code (51930-51933) and meets the California Health Education Content Standards for “Growth, Development, and Sexual Health.”
Join Health Connected on Tuesday, April 4, 7-8 p.m. for a virtual Parent Information Night on Puberty. This information session provides parents and guardians with information about the Puberty Talk scope and sequence, key course content, rationale, and the California Healthy Youth Act. There is also an opportunity for questions and answers. Please register in advance through the Health Connected online form. Spanish interpretation will be available.
California state law allows you to remove your student from all or part of any sexual health education provided in school. If you wish to review the curriculum materials, please contact our District Resource Center at (408) 794-3184 or Health Connected at parents@health-connected.org. You may also visit www.health-connected.org or www.lets-talk.how for more information and resources for families to start or continue these important conversations.
