Braly Football

DSC_0509.jpgAttention all Braly Eagles + families!

Whether you're a football fan or not, please come out and show your school spirit this Thursday, Nov. 3, as we take on the Pomeroy Rockets on Braly's field. This will be our very last game of the season, so don't miss out on the opportunity! Kickoff is at 3:15 pm. We'll see you on the field!

It’s been a thrill being Braly’s flag football coach for the 2011-2012 school year. We have 12 dedicated students on the team, both 4th and 5th graders, who truly demonstrate excellence in teamwork and cooperation. Most students come in without any prior experience with football, so I applaud these particular students for trying something new and taking risks in something they are unfamiliar with.

Practices are limited (20 mins during lunch 4x a week), therefore we really make the most of our time together. My biggest goal for these students is to learn how to harmoniously play together on a team in working towards a common goal. Making successful catches, throws, blocks, and plays are all essential and something I aim for as a coach, but it doesn’t characterize what flag football is all about. Our primary focus is for all players to have fun out there on the field. Although we do keep score during games played against other schools in the district, competition and “winning” is not our top priority. The students understand that they represent the team, and on a larger scale, the school. Their behavior and attitude on and off the field must be exemplary in order to stay on the team.

I have witnessed first-hand on numerous occasions the positive nature and good sportsmanship coming from the players. It is something that I can undoubtedly say makes not only Braly football players extra special, but all Braly students extra special. We REALLY DO stand out above the rest!
